Q: Shouldn't this list contain only people born in Puerto Rico?
A: No, nationality is defined culturally, not geographically. Freddie Prinze, Jr. was not born in Puerto Rico but considers himself Puerto Rican because of his father's lineage and his upbringing. This is considered being Puerto Rican by ethnicity. Jennifer López and Marc Anthony are also examples of this. However, some people are also considered Puerto Ricans simply because of their upbringing. Tony Croatto is an example of this as he is considered a non-ethnic Puerto Rican since both him and his parents were born in Italy but Croatto moved to Puerto Rico and lived there for 38 years until his death. Puerto Rican people considered Croatto a Puerto Rican, and so did himself.
A: To avoid edit wars and because of customs and tradition on Wikipedia. Traditionally, Lists of people by nationality follow the format List of nationality rather than List of notable nationality. Regarding edit wars: we renamed the List once and some people made a fuzz about it. We want to avoid that happening again. However, if you believe that the List should be renamed please request to move the List elsewhere.

I would like to add Teodoro Vidal to the list but not sure what category to include him under. Teodoro Vidal Santoni (1923–2016) was a Puerto Rican government official, art historian, and folklorist who collected Puerto Rican art.----Lawrlafo (talk) 04:52, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
