Hallo Sven. Image:Map of Ukraine political.png can be listed in the Wikipedia:List of images since you've placed it under a more-free licence than the GFDL. Anyone to use it and long they credit you, and the GFDL also requires such credit, so it's fine to include it there in my opinion. Angela. 12:09, Sep 30, 2004 (UTC)

Hello Steschke. I've created WikiProject Ukrainian subdivisions, and listed your name there as contributor of the map (thanks very much, by the way). Regards. Michael Z. 04:15, 2004 Oct 4 (UTC)

Maps on each oblast'

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for offering a version of the map highlighting individual oblasti. We can definitely use the individual ("klein") oblast' maps on each oblast' page.

Cherkasy Khmel'nyts'kyy Kherson Chernihiv Dnipropetrovs'k Donets'k Ivano-Frankivs'k Luhans'k L'viv Kirovohrad KYIV Krim Mykolayiv Odesa Poltava Rivne Zaporizhzhya Zhytomyr Sumy Ternopil’ Uzhhorod Kharkiv Chernigov Luts'k Do not use!!! Vinnytsia - NOT Vinnytsya Vinnytsia

ToDo

[edit]

I hate to ask you to do more work, but can you produce a version with thick boundaries, suitable for display at small sizes? It probably doesn't need any labels, just the major boundaries and coastlines. Please have a look at /Infobox#Proposal to see what I mean (note: the infobox format isn't finalized yet).

like this? Or without rivers but with see? --Steschke 23:01, 2004 Oct 5 (UTC)

Wow, you work fast! This looks great (I've added an example at /Infobox#Proposal). How would you feel about leaving in the seas, and other countries' boundary and fill? That would help to visually orient the border regions relative to their neighbours.
Not sure about the rivers -- they also help with orientation, especially Dnipro, but they make the map a little bit busy at very small sizes. If pressed, I would vote to leave them in, since they don't visually interfere with the highlighted oblast'.
Good work! Michael Z. 14:10, 2004 Oct 6 (UTC)

I've also been working on a map graphic. It's not as detailed as yours, but it would be suitable for the location maps without requiring a lot more work.

By the way, have you seen Brama's Ukrainian map server? It has scans of top maps, some of which may be suitable for tracing more features from (e.g. this map, 128 kB jpeg). There are also detailed road maps at lemko.org.

Michael Z. 14:48, 2004 Oct 5 (UTC)

Copied from Michael Z's talk:

How do you think about leaving in Dnipro only because it's an important landmark (en?)? I will add seas, and other countries' boundary and fill again then. Actually I've only a little time problem - have to work from early morning till after midnight this week. --Steschke 07:14, 2004 Oct 7 (UTC)
That sounds great. There's no rush, do it when you have the time. I'll insert the maps into the infoboxes (don't know if that will be so quick anyway), and you can update them at your leisure. Thanks for the good work. Michael Z. 23:37, 2004 Oct 7 (UTC)

Your new version is excellent! Thanks for all of the work. I've gathered some up-to-date data for the project infoboxes, and I'm hoping to get some input from all the contributors. Then we'll get them out on the oblast pages. Please have a look.

Wow, you are fast! I'm going to sleep now. Good work. Michael Z.

So sleep well. Please take a look at Kiev an Simferopol. --Steschke 11:10, 2004 Nov 1 (UTC)
The ring for Sevastopol is easy to miss at a glance in the 125px size, although I like the way you've marked the precise location of the city for the full-sized view of the map. What if you filled in the ring with transparent red, and used a slightly larger black dot for the centre? Do you have a source for the actual city boundaries, the way Berlin is shown (are Kyiv and big enough?)?
There's an example of another approach at Prince Edward Island (for completeness; I don't like the 'gun-sight' there). Michael Z. 15:58, 2004 Nov 1 (UTC)
I tried to find a solution yesterday evening. After 3 hours I stopped without success. We'll find a way next days, but it has to be good and no blame. --Steschke 07:16, 2004 Nov 2 (UTC)

I've updated the English population stats for Subdivision infoboxes. Chernivets'ka oblast' had incorrect area; I've corrected it in English and German WP. Michael Z. 00:13, 2004 Nov 8 (UTC)

Good work! Thank you. I had seen a correction with IP and thougt that might have been you. --Steschke 07:58, 2004 Nov 8 (UTC)

Election results

[edit]

Thanks for the pointer to the initial results. I've copied the figures to Ukrainian presidential election, 2004. Is there a German page that we should interwiki link to? Michael Z. 22:59, 2004 Nov 10 (UTC)

We only have a section in de:Ukraine about the elections but no separate article. --Steschke 06:31, 2004 Nov 11 (UTC)
Now there is an article: de:Präsidentschaftswahlen in der Ukraine. --Steschke 20:39, 2004 Nov 12 (UTC)

Donets Basin

[edit]

Hi, i've seen you made those great maps of Ukrainian provinces, I wonder of you could maybe make a map of the Donets Basin? GeneralPatton 11:06, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Before I can answer, please tell me how you discribe the region. If you only want a map simular to the existing maps with the oblasts Donetsk and Luhans'k highlithed it's no problem. If you want to have a map with a historical correct border it would make more problems - the first would be to get the informations. --Steschke 14:01, 2004 Nov 21 (UTC)
Having Donetsk and Luhans'k highlithed is enough. GeneralPatton 19:03, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Yanukovych image

[edit]

Hey there, I'm curious how you got to take the portrait of Yanukovych? Do you know him personally, as it looks professionally done, like an official state photograph. -- Solitude\talk 11:02, Nov 23, 2004 (UTC)

Actually, this image looks to be a retouched version of this image. Can you confirm that you shot that image and are the original copyright holder? -- Solitude\talk 11:06, Nov 23, 2004 (UTC)

No, I don't know him personally. It's taken from an election poster at Cherson this august. --Steschke 11:29, 2004 Nov 23 (UTC)
I see, actually if you reproduce a copyrighted image, for instance by scanning it directly or making a high quality photograph of it (like yours) this is a violation of the copyright. This means it can not be licensed under the GFDL, I'm afraid it is also not a Fair use image, as it doesn't fall under U.S. copyright. -- Solitude\talk 12:50, Nov 23, 2004 (UTC)
PS. If you reply to a message, please respond on the sender's talk page, or alternatively just respond by pointing to the answer on your own talk page.
In the case of a violation of the copyright I agree to delete the image. Sorry about this. May be it's an idea to open a duscussion about deleting to keep the picture the next days when trouble is going on in ukraine. I have no idea, where to get an other free picture. --Steschke 13:29, 2004 Nov 23 (UTC)

Maps of Ukraine

[edit]

Could you provide a source file for the maps so others can make proper variations. Could I also suggest that you don't use gradient fills, as they limit the amount the PNGs can be compressed. ed g2stalk 15:05, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Yes, thanks very much. ed g2stalk 21:25, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Nice. Unfortunately I don't think mine will make featured picture status as people seem to think it's only current afairs, although I don't see anything wrong with going and voicing your support: Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates#Ukraine elections map. ed g2stalk 02:38, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

If you are willing to make a version of the map of Ukraine in Polish, that would be great, and I will be glad to provide the translation of placenames. I am wondering what would be the easiest way to do this. Could you for example give me a list of all the names you are using to make the map? Then I could just put the translation right next to the names. Let me know if this is the most convenient way for you. Balcer 19:57, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the list. I have translated the entries you gave me, and I added the rest. If I forgot anything, let me know. For my stuff I used english-polish translation, referring to: English version of map in Commons

Also, one major river, Dniester (Dniestr in Polish) is not marked on the map. It's the one flowing into the Black Sea near Odesa.

Have fun making the modifications. Thanks in advance. Balcer 23:08, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thats funny - is's marked at the german and ukrainian version ?-) I'll fix that. --Steschke 23:22, 2004 Dec 1 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Germany articles by quality log

[edit]

There is no point to disambiguate Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Germany articles by quality log and similar bot-generated WP 1.0 lists, as they are just a record of the daily addition and changes to the article list. You will notice in a couple of days that under that days heading it will either show the article as moved or new under the new name and removed under the old name. Agathoclea 22:18, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kannst du mir das genauer erklären? Linkfix ist Linkfix. --ST 22:22, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Es sind keine Artikel sondern Log-Einträge, die die jeweiligen Veränderungen der "assessment" zum WikiProject Germany dokumentieren. Der Linkfix würde das Log verfälschen. Agathoclea 07:32, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pittsburgh 1847

[edit]

Danke!!20:50, 11 April 2008 (UTC) I'm not sure if any descendants of this group are there, but it is fairly likely. I know of a Roman Catholic church in Pittsburgh, that has its "bulletins" (church newspapers) printed in German for the first several years if its existance. There are many people of German descent in Pennsylvania, with immigration starting before the American Revolution. Therer may be a discussion group at ancestry.com that could answer this question.Pustelnik (talk) 20:38, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Logo Zweibrüder Optoelectronics.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo Zweibrüder Optoelectronics.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:14, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Grusse! If and when you finish the Zweibrüder Optoelectronics article and move it to article space, just let me (or any admin, really) know, and we can undelete the image and all the edits around the tagging. There is no need to reupload it, it's still there, just deleted. Hope that helps. ++Lar: t/c 14:06, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, This image was seemingly uploaded prior to current image polices, Thank you.

However, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure all media on English Wikipedia is correctly licensed and attributed it would be appreciated if you were able to confirm, that it was your own work, by marking it as own, amending the information added by a third party, and by changing the license to an appropriate "self" variant. You can also add |claimed=yes to the Media by uploader or Presumed self tag(s) if present to indicate that you've acknowledged the image, and license shown (and updated the information where appropriate).

IF you have other uploads, please consider "claiming" them in a similar manner, You can find a list of files you have created here.

This will assist those reviewing the many many "free" images on commons that have not yet been transferred to Commons. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:44, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The file File:Map of Ukraine political simple Zhytomyr.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Orphaned map.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~ Rob13Talk 01:18, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
